Variations
To make a
rustic pastry,
add previously grilled or fried seasonal vegetables and thinly sliced potato slices to the filling.
For an
even creamier result
with a stronger flavor, alternate the slices of ham with layers of mozzarella and diced sweet or smoked scamorza.
Furthermore, there are numerous variations that can be made to the original recipe to suit everyone’s tastes. For example,
if you prefer a vegetable-based filling,
you can make a ricotta and spinach pie or a caprimoi pie .
Alternatively, you can make delicious
rolls
. Once you’ve filled the pastry with your favorite ingredients, roll it up into a roll . Then, place it in the refrigerator and let it rest for about twenty minutes.
Once the required time has passed, remove the roll from the refrigerator and cut the pastry into slices, forming the rolls. Once you’ve arranged them well apart, place the baking sheet in a preheated oven. This will create
small, crispy and flavorful appetizers,
ideal for a buffet or an aperitif.

Having survived the centuries,
savory pies
are still a great dinner idea today. They can be eaten hot or cold, require little preparation, and their versatility makes them perfect for any occasion.
